How Does Blood Stagnation Affect Dogs?

Blood stagnation. It’s a somewhat vague sounding term that can have serious consequences for your pup. Most commonly referred to in traditional Chinese medicine, blood stagnation is not an ailment that many are familiar with in the States. At Wapiti Labs, we combine western medicinal practices with the ancient healing arts to craft the best supplements possible for your pets. Because when it comes to how to keep your dog or cat healthy, you want to know that you’re getting the best that the world has to offer.
Both our Recuperate Herbal Supplement formula for cats and our Recuperate Herbal Supplement formula for dogs utilize powerful ingredients chosen to help disperse blood stagnation by invigorating and moving the blood to support the body’s normal inflammatory response.

What is Blood Stagnation

Blood Stagnation, also commonly called blood stasis, is a common ailment found in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). At Wapiti, we embrace both TCM and modern western healing practices to help our supplements be as effective as possible. In TCM, blood stagnation is thought to slow or cause the blood to pool due to heart Qi irregularities.
What is Heart Qi? In TCM, Qi is referred to as the flow of life, and while you may think that “heart” just refers to the organ, it actually has a bit of a wider definition here. The word Heart can be referring to either your physical heart or your emotional and spiritual health. Thus why it is capitalized when talking about anything more than the actual organ.
As such, blood stagnation can refer to one of two scenarios; the first being emotional triggers that are preventing a body from performing normally, thus forcing the heart to work overtime. The second usage of the term “blood stagnation” can refer to the more literal biomedical diseases that occur from blood disruptions such as hemorrhages, congestion, thrombosis, or ischemia (microclots). These diseases are all called hematological disorders, which is a branch of medicine which focuses on the cause, treatments, and prevention of blood-related diseases.

What is Hemorrhaging:

hemorrhaging is a fancier way of saying bleeding, or when blood has escaped the circulatory system. Hemorrhaging can occur internally or externally through a natural or unnatural opening. If too much blood is lost it may be fatal.

What is Congestion:

While you may think of congestion in relation to your allergies, the word actually only means a hindrance or blockage of the passage of something. When talking about blood stagnation, the term means blocking up of the capillary or other blood vessels. This blockage can take place in any locality or organ.

What is Thrombosis:

Thrombosis is a blood clot within a blood vessel, which in turn obstructs the flow of blood through the circulatory system.

What is Ischemia:

Ischemia is a restriction of blood supplied to tissues which causes a shortage of oxygen that is otherwise needed to keep tissue alive. A common sign of ischemia is discoloration.
